However, it has been confirmed that after delivery, customers may have installed a sports or M sport steering wheel with a TAKATA airbag from BMW-approved replacement parts. The steering wheel in question is equipped with an airbag inflator using ammonium nitrate, and if the vehicle has been exposed to high-temperature and high-humidity environments for an extended period, the compressed gas propellant inside the inflator may have been deformed. In such cases, in the event of an accident, the driver-side front airbag could deploy abnormally, causing the inflator body to rupture and potentially injure the driver, leading to this recall.
